Things have been very quiet of late on the firmware-updates front from Unicorn – as rumour has it, their focus is on a new product line-up...

So, let's stir things up a bit in their development camp and put in some requests for something new in support of us - the faithful Mvix-Community…

We’re looking for some thing new - some spanking killer-feature that will renew our commitment to this ageing device, not a minor-release fixing bugs that should never have been there in the first place!

We’ve created a new poll so that community members can all vote on the features we would most like to see in a new firmware release from Unicorn. This poll is based on a compilation of features from our ‘feature requests’ forum. So, cast your vote and let your voice be heard …and if you don’t see something you want, then go right ahead and let your fingers do the talking – add your feature request to our forum.

Again, please remember that this is not an official forum, so we have no control over what Unicorn choose to put into their firmware upgrades, but we really need to reawaken the manufacturers to the notion that we want something new.

There are so many features to choose from - these media players could be so much more, so let’s push the developers for more… vote for new features now!

Feel free to follow a link to any feature and post your comments - if there isn't a link, create a new post on our boards and tell us your ideas.

If you’re not a member yet, register here and cast your vote - add your voice to the community!

Everybody has gone voting-mad of late, so why should we be any different?

The polls are open - let's all vote on what new features we would most like to see in future firmware from Unicorn.

We've put together a list of several feature requests where members can vote on what they would most like to see in a firmware upgrade - by this we mean a real next-generation upgrade, not a bug-fix release!

Keep in mind that this is not an official forum, so we have no control over what Unicorn choose to put into firmware upgrades, but surely if we could come up with a system that shows what we as users are interested in, then we could get the manufacturers to sit up and take note...

Vote for your most wanted feature in each category - choose a GUI feature, a networking feature, a file that you most want supported, a desired multimedia feature and a real use for the LCD screen - go wild!

Feel free to follow a link for any feature and post your comments - if there isn't a link, create a new post in the feature requests.

So if you aren't a member yet, register here and cast your vote - let your voice be heard!

MvixUSA is launching the very portable MV-2500U media player in the US. The MV-2500U can hold a 2.5" ATA hard drive (up to 250GB) and is about the size of a PDA.

The MV-2500U has most of the features of the MX series (760 and 780) and even comes with an IR remote control.

In case you didn't think the 7x0HD was portable enough, the 2500 may be the unit for you.

The MV-2500U should be available sometime in May.

You can see a pic here: http://www.gizmosforgeeks.com/2008/05/05/mvixusa-l...

New firmware has been released on the Mvix.net site for the following models:
- MX-760HD - 1.2.1
- MX-780HD - 2.0.3

Where previous generations of MX-760HD firmware excluded the Internet Radio & (Beta) TV functionality, Unicorn have made the (wise) decision to add this to the 760's firmware line-up with their latest release - now the version lineage is in sync.
So now the only reason to install the other player's firmware is dependant on your preferred GUI colour - blue (760) or purple (780)

Get your official firmware from here .

Please take the time to look at the Wiki while you are here - any mod / hack contributions welcome.

MvixCommunity recently passed the 1000 member mark! Since we launched, we've seen steady growth in membership and hope to continue that way, particularly with Mvix promising to release a new model with a new chipset that will support many more connectivity technologies and AV formats.

If you're not already a member, sign up and talk with the many amateur Mvix experts already on the forums.

Cheers!

One of our members, dannyv45, got a response from MvixUSA support saying that a new firmware release for the MX-760 is imminent. We confirmed this to be true with MvixUSA. It's currently going through beta testing, but no word on a firm deadline for its release.

Some of the fixes and additions include expanding the m3u limit from 213 to 3000 files, and improvements in audio and video quality. Those are definitely some major things to look forward to.

Hi Mvix'ers,

Based on Tridens suggestion of a contest of a contest to guide and influence the development of the GUI interface of the next Mvix media player, we're wondering how many of you would be interested in participating in a similar contest for the MX-760HD?

Obviously, if there isn't enough interest, it won't make sense to run such a contest, but on the other hand, if there is, well, the possibilities are wide open as to what we do. So please vote in the poll and let us know your thoughts.

Cheers!

As they like what we've been doing with the community forums and wiki, MvixUSA has been in touch with us from time to time. Although they don't have the resources currently to be active participants in the forums, they wanted us to pass along this message.

Representatives of MvixUSA are actively reading the posts on MvixCommunity. They completely support and appreciate the efforts of the community members.
The Community may rest assured that their feedback and feature requests are always given due consideration. Launching new features via firmware updates is a joint effort by Sigma Technologies (Chipset provider), our developing partners (Unicorn Info Sys) and us (MvixUSA). We constantly provide market feedback to our developing partners, who consult with Sigma to evaluate its technical feasibility and then we make a market/business feasibility analysis for the feature implementation. We have tried to implement and will continue to incorporate as many features as can be technically feasible/supported by Sigma Tech. For some, we even go beyond and try to leverage others. For example, our NDAS firmware ( launched recently) ... was possible only because we signed a licensing agreement with Ximeta and then developed a firmware around Ximeta's NDAS technology.

In the coming months, we have some exciting new development coming along (either in MX-76HD or newer models) - SATA-PATA combo, HDMI, H.264 support, VC-1, etc. As you will notice, some of these features are a direct result of Mvix user feedback (e.g. NDAS, WPA etc.). Unfortunately, we do not release launch dates of new features and new models until the beta tests start or production on new models commence. However, the community can rest assured that they will be the first to be informed of any new launches/updates that come along. We also invite our users to sign up on our monthly, Mvix Newsletter to be updated of latest news relating to Mvix products.

MvixUSA applauds the efforts and commitment of this community. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and we hope that this active involvement will continue. Unfortunately, owing to resource limitations, contractual obligations and liability issues, MvixUSA will not provide technical support, feature-support commitments etc. via this forum. Customers of MvixUSA are welcome to contact us via our MvixUSA Support Center.

Let's keep doing what we're doing and one day we'll be able to get the Mvix folks on here in a big way.
