For those who have missed this news, MvixUSA have released an ultra-compact small form factor Home-Theatre PC called the "Minx" MX-3250HD, on which you can install your own OS, or XBMC.

PDF Link for specs.

It appears to incorporate the J&W Minix 780G mini-itx motherboard.

MvixCommunity is proud to have gotten the scoop on a brand new media device that MvixUSA is set to release in just a few short weeks!

Here's what we can tell you right now. MvixUSA has not been working with prior partners on this product. This means that the new media center device will be using new chips and chipsets. This in turn means even more formats will be supported. As a teaser, the new unit, titled the Mvix Ultio (isn't that Latin for 'revenge'!?), will support FLAC, MKV and H.264! It is rumored to also have an embedded UPnP and a bittorent client.

Perhaps the best news will be that the majority of the Linux-based code will be provided for free and shipped with the device itself! Certainly, this is proof-positive that MvixUSA has been listening to the community and the clamors for opening up the code. Another benefit from MvixUSA producing this product themselves is that feedback will go directly to the manufacturer and they will be able to fix issues themselves.

As for price, we will just say that the price will be extremely competitive. Shipping should start right around the start of June 2009.

Stay tuned for further updates.

MvixUSA has announced a new product referred to as the "MvixVOD" (Video On Demand) at the recent CES 2009 in Las Vegas.

See the details in this brochure.

Could this be the rumoured Mvix800HD? The GUI images appear completely revamped from those depicted on mvix.net for either the MvixMCE or Mvix800HD, with a movie info interface that includes movie poster and plot / director / actor info.
There still doesn't appear to be Meta data for custom media sorting but this is a definite step in the right direction.

If anyone was there, please give us details...

The ageing structure of our community forums no longer fit in with the current product line-up from Mvix, so this is what we are considering doing:

MX-Series (was called MX-760HD & MX-780HD) - Discussion will still cover the MX-760HD and MX-780HD, but will include the MX780-DVI, which is essentially the MX-760HD with SATA support, as well as associated features of the MX range such as NDAS, including the usual wireless setup, ripping suggestions, etc.

MV-Series (was called 4000/5000 Series) - This forum will cover product discussion of the full MV range, including the 2500, 4000, 5000 & 6000 line-up, which all share similar firmware functionality and GUI, aside from some hardware differences.

MvixBOX (was called Unicorn Family) - This section will cover discussion on the WDN-2000 and any possible future NAS / WebDisk / Server from Mvix, covering functionality and issues. This is currently the case anyway, so this is once again a simple re-name.

MvixPVR - A new section will be created for discussion of the MvixPVR which has recently been launched in Europe, and will possibly start to appear soon in other regions. Topic discussion will be specific to the recording features and other new functionality not available on the existing line-up, including MvixFTS and MvixLive.

Feature Requests - This is currently a sub-forum within the MX-760HD & MX-780HD forum. The time has come to move this out to allow feature requests to stand on their own. Many of the features requested in the past have been introduced to some degree in one or more products of the existing or future line-up.

Additional possible sections may be added depending on product similarities once we know more about their features and functionalities - I refer to the prospective Mvix800HD and MvixMCE currently being featured on www.mvix.net. The idea here is not to have too many sections but rather to group similar products as far as possible, so as not to appear too intimidating or overwhelming to our visitors and members...

Please let us have your constructive comments on this.

MvixUSA has been kind enough to offer US MvixCommunity members a fantastic offer on the new MvixBOX NAS Server. If at least 12 MC members commit to purchasing an MvixBOX, then each unit will cost $229 (including shipping). If the number rises to 24, then the unit cost falls to $209! It gets better - we plan to get this order in by Dec 5, 2008 so that everyone can take advantage of the $50 mail-in-rebate. This potentially means getting an MvixBOX at $159! You will not find any other vendor that can possibly come close to matching these prices.

In case you don't know what an MvixBOX is: http://tinyurl.com/584dg9
MvixBOX was also named one of InfoWorld's top 10 gadget picks: http://tinyurl.com/66krtv

As the only way this can work is if you commit to purchasing the unit, so that everyone will get the guaranteed price, we must take some form of 'downpayment' or assurance that you are serious about the purchase. Sorry, but this is a must. To that end, if you want an MvixBox as part of this offer, please send a Paypal in the amount of $20 to paypal@gizmosforgeeks.com, and then send your full name, full US mailing address from your primary e-mail address to admin@mvixcommunity.com .

If you're interested, we need to get both your downpayment and mailing information no later than 9PM Pacific/midnight Eastern on Thur 4 Dec 2008. Yes, that's today.

Once the deadline has passed, we will count up the entries to see if we've met the minimum required # of buyers. If we have, then we will forward the names and addresses of the buyers to MvixUSA who will invoice you and then send your units directly to you. We will then refund your Paypal payments.

That's it. Please let us know if you have any questions and do act quickly to take advantage of what is quite an offer, and just in time for the holiday gift-giving season!

Things have been very quiet of late on the firmware-updates front from Unicorn – as rumour has it, their focus is on a new product line-up...

So, let's stir things up a bit in their development camp and put in some requests for something new in support of us - the faithful Mvix-Community…

We’re looking for some thing new - some spanking killer-feature that will renew our commitment to this ageing device, not a minor-release fixing bugs that should never have been there in the first place!

We’ve created a new poll so that community members can all vote on the features we would most like to see in a new firmware release from Unicorn. This poll is based on a compilation of features from our ‘feature requests’ forum. So, cast your vote and let your voice be heard …and if you don’t see something you want, then go right ahead and let your fingers do the talking – add your feature request to our forum.

Again, please remember that this is not an official forum, so we have no control over what Unicorn choose to put into their firmware upgrades, but we really need to reawaken the manufacturers to the notion that we want something new.

There are so many features to choose from - these media players could be so much more, so let’s push the developers for more… vote for new features now!

Feel free to follow a link to any feature and post your comments - if there isn't a link, create a new post on our boards and tell us your ideas.

If you’re not a member yet, register here and cast your vote - add your voice to the community!

Everybody has gone voting-mad of late, so why should we be any different?

The polls are open - let's all vote on what new features we would most like to see in future firmware from Unicorn.

We've put together a list of several feature requests where members can vote on what they would most like to see in a firmware upgrade - by this we mean a real next-generation upgrade, not a bug-fix release!

Keep in mind that this is not an official forum, so we have no control over what Unicorn choose to put into firmware upgrades, but surely if we could come up with a system that shows what we as users are interested in, then we could get the manufacturers to sit up and take note...

Vote for your most wanted feature in each category - choose a GUI feature, a networking feature, a file that you most want supported, a desired multimedia feature and a real use for the LCD screen - go wild!

Feel free to follow a link for any feature and post your comments - if there isn't a link, create a new post in the feature requests.

So if you aren't a member yet, register here and cast your vote - let your voice be heard!

<<< New poll is up - vote for your most-wanted features! >>>
